ISKCON in Srinagar - The Story

Our story unfolds in the heart of Srinagar, where the seeds of spiritual awakening were planted by our monks during a profound religious trip.

In the serene ambiance of Srinagar, local communities approached us and shared heartfelt grievances about the fading Vedic culture and values in Garhwal society. Their plea was simple yet profound — to build an ISKCON temple in Srinagar. This temple would be more than bricks and mortar; it would serve as the epicentre for spreading the profound wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, guiding communities to live in harmony through the path of Krishna consciousness.

Nestled in the lap of the Garhwal region, Srinagar stands as the educational capital, home to prestigious institutions like VCSG Medical College and HNBGU Central University and NIT. However, the influx of thousands of students from across India brings its own set of challenges. In the tide of consumerism, many succumb to harmful habits, leading to mental health struggles such as anxiety, depression, and even thoughts of suicide.

ISKCON Srinagar, aiming to be a sanctuary for the troubled hearts of Srinagar’s youth. Through the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and mantra meditation sessions, we aspire to provide a lifeline for those grappling with chronic adversities. Our mission is clear — to instil values that endure, fostering resilience against anxiety & depression. In doing so, we hope to mould individuals into moral pillars for society.

Over the past two years, ISKCON Srinagar has illuminated the spiritual landscape by celebrating festivals like Ram Navami and Krishna Janmashtami. These vibrant events have weaved together a rich story, rekindling a deep affection for beloved divine figures like Krishna and Rama.

Our Mission

Our ultimate ambition is to preserve, promote and protect the roots of Sanatana Dharma in the soil of Garhwal.

Our Values

We believe that establishing the ISKCON Srinagar temple dedicated to the Supreme Lord Shri Krishna will be the catalyst for achieving these goals. It’s not just a temple; it’s a symbol of hope, wisdom, and a sanctuary for the soul.
